Battle of the Beltway Birdathons
Birdathon Battle of the Beltways
We're going head-to-head with Irvine Nature Center, just outside of Baltimore, Maryland, in a friendly competition we're calling the Battle of the Beltway Birdathons! Both our respective Birdathons will run this year from Earth Day, April 22 through Memorial Day, May 26. Help us win the Bird's Nest Crown and beat Irvine Nature Center in this first-ever beltway battle.  Sign up for the ANS annual Bloomin' Birdathon today

Victory for Ten Mile Creek!
Because Our Last, Best Creek is Worth Saving
No April Fool's Day joke, yesterday the Montgomery County Council voted unanimously to approve the Ten Mile Creek Limited Master Plan Amendment. The approved plan limits imperviousness to 6% on new development projects in the most sensitive areas; mandates 80% open space requirements and 200‐foot buffers for wetlands, streams and groundwater springs; and spurs reforestation with a goal of 65% forest cover for the entire watershed. Diane Cameron, ANS Conservation Director and the Save Ten Mile Creek Coalition Coordinator, called the vote “a victory for citizens and scientists working together with elected officials to protect our last, best creek – Ten Mile Creek.” Read Diane's blog.

And thanks to you, ANS with the Save Ten Mile Creek Coalition and all those who stood up for clean drinking water is able to celebrate victory for Ten Mile Creek, the cleanest source of water to Little Seneca Reservoir, our only nearby emergency drinking water source in severe droughts for 4.3 million people in Maryland, DC and Virginia.
