Online Registration for Day-Off & Spring Break Camps
Schools out camp at Woodend

New this school year, parents and guardians can register online for our School's Out and Spring Break Camps at Woodend Nature Sanctuary. We offer School’s Out Nature Camps at Woodend when Montgomery County Public Schools are closed--typically, professional days for teachers, holidays and election days. We have two School’s Out Nature Camps: Nature Adventures (Grades K-5) and Eco-Team Service Learning (Grades 6-9). The first camp of the 2015-16 school year is Monday, September 14. Register Today.

Public Meeting on Restoring Woodend Sanctuary
Woodend in Autumn

Join us for a public meeting Tuesday, September 15 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Woodend Nature Sanctuary to discuss upcoming restoration projects planned for the sanctuary.

We want your feedback on a draft plan for soaking up 100 percent of Woodend’s stormwater runoff onsite to help protect nearby Rock Creek. During the meeting, we'll also share plans for new way-finding signs and a deer exclosure fence to help restore the plant, insect and wildlife communities of Woodend.

Donna Evans, Planning Specialist, RainScapes Program, Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection and Greg Hoffmann, Engineer, Center for Watershed Protection will join us for the meeting. Greg will present the proposed retrofit plans for each of the paved areas at Woodend. Donna will show landowners how they can apply similar retrofits to their own residential and institutional sites and apply for rebates.

The meeting is FREE and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP Today

New Tool Maps Communities with Environmental Risks
Ten Mile Creek
The Choose Clean Water Coalition (CCWC) successfully pushed for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to release the EJSCREEN mapping tool in June after several years of development. This online GIS-mapping tool shows an area's proximity to sources of water, air and soil pollution as well as demographic information such as whether a community is low income—data that could help indicate which communities have environmental-justice concerns. Twenty-eight CCWC members, including ANS, petitioned the EPA to release the tool.  Learn More

Few Preschool Spots Still Open for This School Year

A few spots still remain open at the Audubon Nature Preschool for this school year, which starts September 8.

The Nature Preschool builds on children's inherent curiosity about the world by using hands-on, nature-based activities to foster social, physical, and academic skill development. The 40-acre outdoor environment and indoor and outdoor classrooms serve as natural venues for language, artistic, and musical expression as well as scientific observations and discoveries.

AM and PM drop-off preschool programs are available for 3 1/2 to 5 year old children. Parent-child classes are offered on Thursdays and Friday mornings for children ages 4 and younger.  Apply Today.
